Synopsis
Classic Green Arrow-style adventure blends with the thoughtfulness of Concrete in a superhero odyssey for mature but uncynical readers! Frontiersman is coaxed out of retirement by an environmentalist group, only to find that being a spokesperson makes him a target for old and new enemies alike! For the superhero reader looking for more.
Review
I personally always like to find stories about new superheroes, something a little different from the norm. Frontiersman definitely looks like it will tick that box, a hero dragged out of retirement to fight the good fight once again, albeit unwittingly by the look of it.
An environmental group need a hero someone that can be a spokesman for the cause, although Frontiersman is definitely “The Man” for the job he doesn’t feel he is and struggles to see where he could fit in, by the sound of it kind of likes his life off grid.
This is an introduction for me to the writing of Kindlon and to be fair I enjoyed what I read, I feel as though the foundations have been laid for a decent series going forward. The illustrations from Ferrari were great did what you’d expect an illustrator to do and brought the words to life for the reader.
Verdict
I enjoyed the introduction to Frontiersman and appreciated the need for a “foundation building” issue building towards a solid series going forward although at this stage it feels like a slow burner, to be fair sometimes those are better stories as everything isn’t thrown at you at one time, I’m looking forward to see what the creative team have in store.
