Synopsis
KILLER BAD is an extreme look at everything that was good and bad during the ‘attitude era’ of Comics (the 1990s), served with a spicy side of satire. KILLER BAD is an unapologetic adult comic that praises the flair of the 1990s. When an elite super-group travels to a remote island to retrieve a powerful artifact, they are stalked and killed by a super-slasher, serial killer. Killer Bad #1 is a grindhouse, gore-fest of world-shattering death and destruction!
Review
Now I do enjoy a superhero story, be it in film or in comic form. I just love a good superhero. Even more exciting for me is coming across a new type of hero, something a bit different from the norm.
Killer Bad definitely isn’t the norm from what I have seen so far. There are similarities in some of the characters but that’s where it stops. The best way to describe Killer Bad is to think of The Expendables films mixed with X-Men. Conjure that image in your mind and you are on the right track.
The story sees these rag tag hero bunch “Sick Squad Six” setting up an attack on Death Mile Island to retrieve the Mega Drive safely. From these preview pages it’s clear that won’t be going smoothly.
Burandt brings a unique style of story telling, not quite full on action but fully entertaining. From these preview pages it’s clear that Killer Bad is shaping up to be a decent read. Burandt certainly has a flair for writing epic stories. The art style is in keeping with the comic’s theme of 90s superheroes, the designs are bold and brash very tongue in cheek and it works really well.
Verdict
I enjoyed the introduction to the Killer Bad universe and will look forward to more to add more meat to bones. Definitely go check it out and support an independent publisher.
