Review
In a world full of uncertainty another hero is just what we need, I’d say Hope airs on the side of Anti Hero to be fair but nonetheless she most definitely knows how to make an entrance in the comic world.
In issue 1 we are introduced to Hope Redhood, a reckless thief who is just trying to get by but in the midst of everything gets involved in situations far bigger than she could have imagined. An action packed story that sees Hope trying her best to escape aa she takes a magical gem belonging to a mysteriously dark creature Teros, to say that Teros isn’t happy would be an understatement, in a multi dimension gane of cat and mouse looking like things are about to get interesting.
I’d say Hope’s character seems a mix of other popular hard women such as Buffy and maybe Batwoman and mix it with a feel of Red Riding Hood and you’re on the right track, a character I can’t pin what she wants to be bit I will say one thing she definitely makes an awesome Hope Redhood, I definitely wouldn’t want to cross her.
JH Williams 111 and W Haden Blackman have brought the readers a story that will have you on the edge of your seat as page by page it rammed full of action, heart racing deliverance on each page. The illustrations from Stewart are unique as they seemed to have mixed realism with traditional comic styles that look great, using bold tones and colours really makes the story jump off the page and come to life.
Verdict
Definitely a strong debut for the series, will be very interesting to see where the creative team take the story, we’ll find out in #2 in the meantime definitely pick up a copy and see for yourself.
