Review
If you’re looking for a Sherlock Holmes mixed with the attitude of Buffy and thrown into a Steampunk world then you’re definitely looking in the right place. That really is the best way to describe this book, it’s a mash up that we never thought we needed but we definitely do want it.
The story centres around Lady Mechanika as she turns detective to uncover her past and the truth around her mechanical limbs, does a mysterious gypsy girl with similar limbs hold the key to unlock everything? As the book expands you feel like you’ve just stepped into a steampunk James Bond film full of action stealth and more.
The whole book is fantastically written and pulls on your every emotion with action, suspense and heartache all thrown in for this steampunk rollercoaster ride.
This is the first time I have come across Benitez’ work and hopefully it won’t be the last, a great piece of writing throughout full of everything you’d want in a comic and more. The illustrations are breathtaking, fully detailed with dramatic tones and deep colours used to really captivate the feeling of the story.
Verdict
A good all round book with plenty of twists in the story that keeps you guessing, a great reintroduction to a fantasy filled story arc, I am definitely looking forward as this progresses. Fully recommend for those that love a good mystery.
