It’s no secret that Paramount+ has become THE home of Star Trek on the small screen. With Discovery, Picard and Lower Decks all preparing to drop new seasons and Strange New Worlds on the way there’s plenty to look forward to.
But in a new interview with The New York Times executive producer Alex Kurtzman has detailed another new Trek project which could come to our screens in the near future.
This latest idea to enter development would follow cadets at the famed Starfleet Academy in San Francisco. Whilst Kurtzman wouldn’t give away too much it’s understood the series would take aim at a younger audience. Think Star Trek does high school drama.
With the success of Lower Decks and the upcoming premiere of Star Trek: Prodigy, which will also air on Nickelodeon, the Trek universe is learning to stretch itself beyond the more serious tone of Discovery.
Paramount is clearly happy with the work Kurtzman has been doing over the past few years. The mastermind behind all the current Trek series recently signed a reported nine-figure deal to remain with Paramount and CBS. It’s clear the future is looking bright for Star Trek.
