Breaking new from various Hollywood trades tonight. Multiple reports are coming in that actor J.K. Simmons is in talks to return as Jim Gordon in HBO Max’s Batgirl.
First reported by THR it seems that Simmons is in final talks to return to the role. Simmons previous starred in 2017’s Justice League and director Zack Snyder’s directors cut released earlier this year.
News that Simmons is in final talks comes just a week after it was confirmed that In The Heights star Leslie Grace has landed the lead role. Previous it was disclosed that the studio was openly casting for a new actor to take on the role of Barbara’s father and Gotham’s police commissioner.
Bringing back Simmons could indicate that Warner Bros. is looking to connect Grace’s Batgirl to the universe inhabited by Ben Affleck’s Batman.
Batgirl will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah from a script by Christina Hodson. Kristin Burr is producing.
