Star Trek: Lower Decks returns to our screens in under a month. Season two will debut on Paramount+ in the US before airing internationally via Amazon Prime Video. Last night, the cast of the series came together for a panel at 2021’s ComicCon@Home event.
As part of the panel fans were treated to a brand new trailer which revealed plenty of surprises from the upcoming second season.
The season one finale saw Shakx, the chief of security, sacrificing himself to save the USS Cerritos. Season two will introduce a new security office in the form of a Tamarian named Kayshon. The character will be voiced by Carl Tart.
The finale of the first season also saw the crew of the Cerritos going up against the Pakleds. The same species can be seen in the trailer and it sounds like they will be an integral part of season 2.
“Season two… the Pakleds we sort of treated them like the Klingons were in TOS and the Romulans were in TNG. Kind of a ‘Big Bad,’ a force that is out there and needs to be dealt with” says creator Mike McMahan. “But remember, the Cerritos isn’t necessarily in charge of the big missions. Every once in a while – because they did encounter the Pakleds first – they do get involved with some. But you will see the Titan having to deal with more Pakled stuff. Because the Titan is a little bit more equipped and Riker kicks a little bit more butt.”
Star Trek: Voyager fans will also notice a familiar face with the return of Tom Paris. Robert Duncan McNeill returns to voice the character in what appears to be a very fun cameo.
