It’s been a while since we heard a solid update on a new Star Trek movie. Rumours on the big screen franchise have varied from direct sequels to J.J. Abrams so-called Kelvin timeline all the way to new directions at the helm of either Quentin Tarantino or Noah Hawley.
A new update has come to us overnight from Deadline and suggests that WandaVision director Matt Shakman is the latest director to take on the project. According to the report Shakman has signed on to work with Paramount and Abrams’ Bad Robot, with production set to kick-off next spring.
Deadline understands that Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson have penned the latest version of the script. At the time of publication it was understood the project would reunite the cast of J.J. Abrams 2009 Star Trek movie.
A later report from The Hollywood Reporter has thrown doubt on the film’s casting. Their suggesting is that no deal is in place for Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and the rest of the Enterprise crew to return.
No official confirmation from the studio on this one as yet but watch this space…
