Review
In the much anticipated 4th instalment from the MTG Universe we see the return of our three favourite Planeswalkers as they delve deeper into the mysterious assassination attempts trying to find the answers.
The mysterious story arc takes a dramatic twist a mysterious being appears in each of the Planeswalkers dreams giving them “answers” to the reasons of the assassinations which in turn are beginning to turn the Guilds against each other as they finger the blame. All the frustration and anger threatens to boil over as the Planeswalkers attempt to free Jace only to be met by more conflict.
I found issue #4 a bit more difficult to follow this time around as there was more jumping about and less straightforward action. But at the same time the story is still essential to the full arc so very important to read through it in detail, gathering any clues you come across to unlock the mystery.
Once again McKay has done a stellar job bringing the MTG Universe to the page with a twisting story arc that feels that it is building up to something big, now I am second guessing what I thought I knew about it and thinking that the story is about to do a 360 flip completely shaking everything up.
Guara has once again captivated the essence of the MTG world with incredibly detailed illustrations bringing to life the story and engaging the reader making it easier to imagine the world you are reading about. Using lots of bright colours and dramatic tones really shows off the story that McKay is trying to tell.
Verdict
Personally I found this issue a bit harder to read as it didn’t feel as full on as the others but I’ll put that down to me being more action hungry than anything else, like I previously said if felt like although not as full on as the others this issue is still integral to the arc and still a very important read.
