LEGENDS OF TOMORROW 6×07 “Back to The Finale Part II” Review

Legends of Tomorrow season 6 stars Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan, Olivia Swann, Jes Macallan, Adam Tsekhman, Shayan Sobhian, Lisseth Chavez and Raffi Barsoumian. New episodes air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

    Synopsis

With Ava a wreck, Behrad and the Legends make a last-ditch effort to keep Sara from being abducted in the first place, even knowing that it will alter the timeline.  Sara grapples with what she has just discovered about herself but is also shocked when Mick finds her on the mystery planet.  With no time to spare, Sara, Mick and Gary (new series regular ADAM TSEKHMAN) devise a plan to help defeat Bishop.  Meanwhile, Spooner envisions what her life would be like if she hadn’t joined the Legends.

    Review

Here we are on the closing of the space trotting arc for the Legends team.  After Amelian claimed to have killed Sara during their encounter during episode 2, we find Ava in a broken state over her loss.  The rest of the Legends grieving elsewhere, discover that Behrad has taken things into his own hands and gone to the night Sara was kidnapped to try and prevent it.
This is a big no no as shown in the past that when a time traveller interacts with their past selves, it leads to all sorts of universe ending issues.  The team (minus Ava) quickly leap into action but instead of stopping Behrad, they instead join him and hold up in a nearby restaurant to do this right!

Normally you’d expect your heroes to do the right things and their actions to always be for the greater good but the Legends.  They’re not that type of heroes, they are a ragtag group of misfits who deeply care for one another enough to risk the time space continuum just to save one of their own. It’s something that makes this group of idiots admirable (also entertaining) to watch on a weekly basis.

Elsewhere in the deep reaches of space, Rory is living his best life while trying to save Sara.  After saving Kayla from the toxic atmosphere and then both of them hiding out in a pod which lead to Rory having sex with an alien, he is given until the 3rd moon sets to save Sara or Kayla leaves them on the planet.
Acting quickly, he ends up crossing paths with Gary and his small Rogue Ava squad and they set out to rescue Sara.

Speaking of which, last week’s explosive twist was that Sara Lance did in fact die at the hands of Amelian and the body she is in now is a clone.  She crosses paths with Rory, Gary and the Avas and they decide to blow up Bishop’s facility to stop his plans on creating an army of Sara Alien clones. They split up to take down the barrier and blow everything up in time for them to fly off on Kayla’s spaceship.

Back on earth, the Legends take turns with their plans of getting Sara on the wave rider and changing history so she never gets abducted.  They all fail and ultimately lead past Ava to confront them and to stop them from whatever it is they are trying to do.

Behrads find idea is to make a mannequin look like Sara, fill it with explosives and let that get abducted, blowing up the space ship, sending the aliens throughout time, allowing the previous events to still continue, but with Sara still with them.   This leads to what I can only class as pure hilarious joy when an alternate Nate arrives dressed up as Constantine but with thicker hair and an eyepatch looking like a copy of Snake Plissken from Escape from New York. He warns the team that this plan will result in a horrific alternate future to which they promptly stop and ‘sNate Plissken-tine’ is wiped from existence (though I am sure not from Zari’s memories).

Back in space Sara finds her DNA is part alien when she cuts her hand and it quickly heals so her and Nurse Ava go back to the facility and try to make a new Sara body without Alien DNA in time to escape with everyone else.  Bishop plays his final move however by having his consciousness uploaded to the computer and within 3 minutes will be able to access any computer across the universe.  We’re given a lovely moment between Rory and Sara where he tells her she’s not damaged and all that she has been through she is still Captain Lance, she is Sara, his oldest friend and the Legends need her.  She agrees and they all escape the planet minus the Ava clones who chose to stay and sadly Kayla who died giving them all the chance to get off the planet.

Sara finally reunites with the Legends and she is finally able to propose to Ava who unquestionably says yes and THAT is the end of the first arc of this season.

The development between Rory and Sara was truly touching and a major highlight for me this entire season,  while we know Rory is most likely due to leave the show by the season’s end, it is clear that these two are tight friends as they are the last remaining OG Legends and it shows clear as day.

    Verdict

This has been one fantastic ride for the team.  While I do wish they would have used some more well known DC characters to join the line-up (perhaps they were not allowed) we do have Spooner and Astra on the team helping out where needed.  We still have aliens out there in the timeline too and the Legends now have their Captain back.  Here’s to the remaining half of the season being as entertaining as the first.

I am an ex Royal Navy sailor who loves all things geek. I have a strong admiration of anime as well as western television shows and movies. From a young age I was into video games as well as TV shows, often spotted in front of a screen somewhere. My goal is to become a screenwriter/director one day and left the Royal Navy after 9 years to better pursue that dream of mine.
