Legends of Tomorrow season 6 stars Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan, Olivia Swann, Jes Macallan, Adam Tsekhman, Shayan Sobhian, Lisseth Chavez and Raffi Barsoumian. New episodes air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
Synopsis
Mick and Kayla (guest star ALIYAH O’BRIEN) take the Waverider to try and find Sara, but these enemies find themselves needing each other to survive after landing on the possible planet Sara is being held captive. After a report of an Alien attack, the Legends return to their new headquarters, Constantine’s manor, where both Spooner and Astra try to connect to the Alien. Zari is suspicious of Constantine’s behavior, but isn’t surprised when she learns the truth. Meanwhile, Sara devises a plan to escape by using her charm to win over Bishop (guest star RAFFI BARSOUMIAN), but she learns something more disturbing.
Review
Back to the main storyline this week for the Legends as they find themselves standard in England at the residence of Constantine (much to his annoyance). As they settle into house living, it’s quickly clear how they seem to not be the most thoughtful of hero teams!
Across the galaxy Rory is on his trip to bring back Sara with his new companion Kayla who (for CGI and make up purposes) can too disguise herself as a human. Their ‘Doctor Who’ style adventure immediately and hilariously devolves to drinking lots of booze!
Soon as they arrive however Rory gets caught and the Waverider mysteriously flies away, leaving their only escape option on Kayla’s ship.
We get more on Bishop this week as he too is a clone and has a very nonchalant way of dealing with his problems which is to kill and clone where appropriate. To ensure Rory does not have back up he lowers the barrier surrounding his compound which creates a breathable atmosphere to just purge the entire area (his own Ava clones included) and upon seeing this we witness his Ava Assistant start to think independently (Ava’s are weak to Sara after all)
During the chaos Rory escapes and comes across Kayla dying from the toxic atmosphere, in an act of kindness Rory helps her. This guy has grown quite a bit this season which as one of the last remaining old school cast is great to see. His growth from one bit villain in Flash to this space trotting, booze drinking, novelist has been a great journey.
They make it to Kaylas ship before being attacked by some very fast, very strong aliens and have to hide out in one of the small pods where kidnapped aliens were stored and in another ‘Legends only get away with it’ moment, Rory can now say he has had sex with an alien (more inspiration for his romance novels?)
Back on Earth, Ava is downgraded to an old television but is able to process enough information on a time anomaly in 1956 where a Sara Lance killed a bunch of people in a mental asylum in a brutal fashion. They immediately open a door to 1956 and go to recover what they hope is Sara only to find Amelia Earhart. Trying to get information out of her leads the Legends to find the Waverider revealing it was her who stole it from Rory and Kayla (she really is that good of a pilot!) but not all is what it seems with her as we saw earlier in the season with Sara. Knowing what we do know now with Bishop’s experiments it’s clear Amelia has been cloned with alien DNA which along with what I’d assume is extended isolation from society has affected her mind and has made for one lose cannon of a person.
They bring in Astra and Constantine to help read her memories to uncover how she got the Waverider and how she ended up in 1956 hoping to find the location of Sara but this goes horrifically wrong forcing her alien DNA to overtake her, turning Amelia into the alien itself and attacking the team. Spooner tries to get answers which leads to her actually speaking alien and with the Amelian (coining it now) claiming that she did in fact kill Sara.
Which leads to the big revelation of the episode. Sara goes deep undercover and tries to find answers by pretending to be nice and pally with Bishop. Ultimately losing her cool when he tells her he has killed Rory, she beats him to an inch of his life so he won’t die and uploads into a new clone body and it is here he tells her the truth. Sara Lance did in fact die from the poison from ‘Amelian’ and the body she is in now is a clone.
Verdict
It feels we’re close to the end of the Sara in Space Saga but my god has this been a fun arc! At times I have found it hard to predict and while I do look forward to having the team back together fully, it’s been interesting to see them try new waters with a Solo Sara Lance story and the Legends mixing up the leadership formula.
My only gripe that pops back up with the Sara storyline is Alien Gary. It did not feel fluid and was a bit of a haphazard rewrite of the character. We could blame it on a new Post Crisis Gary origin but it is what it is.
