Published by BOOM! Studios, Power Rangers Unlimited: Edge of Darkness #1 is written by Frank Gogol, illustrated by Simone Ragazzoni, coloured by Igor Monti and lettered by Ed Dukeshire.

The issue is due for release June 30, 2021 in print and on digital. Grab your digital copy from Comixology right here.

    Synopsis

ENTER THE PHANTOM RANGER! Answering Zordon’s call, the Phantom Ranger investigates the aftermath of an Empyreal attack. Only to discover their connection to an ancient evil he encountered long ago… which may have finally returned to threaten the entire universe.

    Review

As you may well have come to know I’m a big fan of the Power Rangers universe especially in comic form, so when the opportunity arose to take a look at a new story arc I jumped at the chance.

Edge of Darkness #1 carries on from Power Rangers #8 with the universe still feeling the effects of the Empyreal attacks that decimated many planets. The Phantom Ranger answers Zordon’s call to investigate the aftermath of the attacks, but what he finds is a whole lot darker than he originally thought, he also attempts to keep a small child out of the clutches of the enemy, the child holds much significance to the universe and must be saved, a dark power from long will once again emerge and its down to the Phantom Ranger to save the universe and the child before it’s too late, the question is can he? Fans could indeed be seeing the birth of a familiar character developing and hopefully we will see more as the arc develops.

Gogol writes an intriguingly dark and emotionally deep story that is certain to keep Rangers fans enthralled in the universe as it takes another exciting twist taking the reader on an action packed ride through time and space as we find the answers to what is happening on this journey. The illustrations are once again incredibly detailed and vibrant grabbing the readers attention throughout. The artistic talents of Ragazzoni shine through in each and every page as Gogol’s vision is brought to life on the page, I personal love how the Phantom Ranger has kept the dark and mysterious feel to the character certainly bringing a different flavour to the Ranger universe.

    Verdict

Once again BOOM! Studios has brought out the big guns and given us an action-packed Rangers story that will keep fans hooked on every page. A definite page turner and I personally can’t wait to see what is next in store for the Phantom Ranger as the issue was left on a very interesting cliffhanger…
