Last night the second season of Batwoman drew to an explosive close on The CW. The episode marked the departure of the new Kate Kane (Wallis Day) who left Gotham for pastures new. But the finale also brought the story of another Kane family member to an end.

In a post-finale interview showrunner Caroline Dries confirmed that Jacob Kane actor Dougray Scott has now departed the show ahead of season 3.

“Having Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane on Batwoman was incredibly special for all of us,” Dries says to EW. “An actor with his pedigree and reputation elevates any project, and he had great chemistry with his castmates. We loved telling Commander Kane’s story for the last two seasons, and we will always leave the door open to have him return. We wish him the very best!”

Dries later added the character had “sort of run its course, for better or for worse, through that storyline. So it worked out that it was mutual [with Scott]. We ended up being able to really write to a good ending for Jacob, just kind of knowing in advance that’s what we were going to do. I’m very pleased with how that story line worked out for him. It allowed us to give Dougray some really rich stuff toward the end.”

Developed by Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries), Batwoman stars Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder/Batwoman. The series co-stars Dougray Scott, Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Nicole Kang, Christina Wolfe and Rachel Skarsten. New episodes air Sundays on E4 in the UK.
