Legends of Tomorrow season 6 stars Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan, Olivia Swann, Jes Macallan, Adam Tsekhman, Shayan Sobhian, Lisseth Chavez and Raffi Barsoumian. New episodes air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

    Synopsis

The Legends are shocked when Mick takes command and manages to find the location of an important alien, but he also lands them in the middle of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Ava is eager to question the alien, but they must steal it back from the Cubans and Russians who think it is bio-warfare sent by the Americans. The team makes the decision to split up, leaving Nate and Zari to work together to stop a nuclear disaster alongside President John F. Kennedy (guest star AARON CRAVEN), while Behrad tries to leverage his newfound friendship to stop Fidel Castro (guest star TIM PEREZ) from starting a war. Meanwhile, with Spooner’s help, Mick makes an unlikely deal that could lead him on a solo mission to find Sara.

    Review

The Legends continue in their search of Sara this week which leads them to Cuba in 1962 during the Missile Crisis.  Rory who was the major standout this week has managed to get his act together, suit up and leads the Legends in Pyjamas to procure the alien pod which holds an alien who can lead them to wherever in the galaxy Sara is being held, however despite their efforts Rory had accidently made the Legends steal a live nuke.

Now that they have successfully broken up time and potentially caused the world to end in nuclear disaster they split off into 3 teams to fix their mistakes. Team 1 consisting of Ava and Behrad go to retrieve the alien pod, Team 2 consisting of Rory and Spooner who try to give the stolen Nuke back to the Russians and Team 3 consisting of Nate and Zari go to Washington to talk down John F. Kennedy from firing back.

Rory with his act together is a sight to see, he has a plan and in typical Legends fashion it goes wrong but is that not all Legend missions end up doing?  Sure without Sara they are more chaotic but that’s fine because they are used to it.  Dominic Purcell has been part of the show since day 1 and is one of the last 2 remaining cast members so it’s good to see his growth from mere muscle man/chaotic team member to a struggling father and a man getting his act together. Considering he was a small-time villain in the early seasons of the Flash, he has had more development than most Arrowverse characters.

On the other end of the team, Behrad is a character I have struggled to like.  His appearance on the show was due to timey wimey stuff and so he never really earned a place on the team and as this episode showed, he simply gets high off Gideon Gummies and passes out. While he does help with keeping Fidel busy for the short term, his place on the team feels like a dropped idea from the past seasons.

The episode bounces between the three storylines as they all race to fix their mistakes which actually keeps the story from turning stale as we zip from Cuba to Washington.

Despite stopping the alien getting dissected, Ava is quickly knocked out and it’s up to Rory and Spooner to talk down the alien and get it to help them.

We have a hilarious ‘fight’ scene in the Oval Office with Nate, Kennedy and two others vs the mad General and his men as they play American Football with the briefcase which will set off the US supply of Nukes. With a little help from Zari they prevent retaliation.

Honestly, the reason to love this series is how out there it truly is.  Each week takes the team to random new settings and adventures, have them come face to face with real life people of history and getting to watch these misfits break and ultimately fix the timeline is just a treat each week.

Finally Rory strikes up a deal with the female alien who then agrees to take him to her homeworld on the Waverider and hopefully to find Sara.  This does leave the rest of the Legends stranded on earth for the next episode to what might be their more grounded adventure.

Also does this make Rory the Arrowverse version of Doctor Who now?

    Verdict

Another win for this season and although we got no update on the status of Sara we did get to see Rory going above and beyond to rescue his long term friend.  The Legends saved the day again after causing the issues and we are one step closer to bringing the Captain home!  It would be good to have Behrad become a bit more of a worthy character for the team as I feel he is the weakest part of the Legends of Tomorrow series.

I am an ex Royal Navy sailor who loves all things geek. I have a strong admiration of anime as well as western television shows and movies. From a young age I was into video games as well as TV shows, often spotted in front of a screen somewhere. My goal is to become a screenwriter/director one day and left the Royal Navy after 9 years to better pursue that dream of mine.
