Published by BOOM! Studios, The Many Deaths of Laila Starr #2 is written by Ram V, illustrated by Filipe Andrade and lettered by AndWorld Design.

Grab your copy of The Many Deaths of Laila Starr #2 will be available in print and on digital where all good comics are sold from May 19, 2021. Grab your copy from Comixology right here.

    Synopsis

The avatar of Death now exists in the mortal world as twenty-something Laila Starr after humanity begins the path to discovering immortality. Years have passed, and Laila unexpectedly meets the boy who will change everything at one of the formative moments in his life. Laila must decide what she truly wants from him – and how far these revelations will push her…

    Review

Following on from the dramatic yet funny debut issue (reviewed here), Ram V returns for issue #2 with a story full of drama, comedy and style which beautifully builds on last months issue.

I enjoyed the first outing of Laila and the different spin of the God Of Death and was looking forward to see where Ram V was going to take the story of Laila tracking down the baby Darius. Issue #2 has jumped forward a few years and Laila is still fruitless with her search for Darius confiding in a talking crow for support and guidance (as you do !!). We also get to know more about the child Darius with a little back story about his challenges with life and death

Ram V certainly knows how to write a story that is deep and meaningful but at the same time perfectly accessible to read. The use of comedy to break the morbid theme which all makes for an enjoyable read with an interesting twist at the end. I like how Many Deaths tackles the normally taboo theme of death and goes about dealing with it in a whole new spin which really works. Despite the potentially heavy subject matter it makes for enthralling reading.

In a similar style to the first issue Many Deaths is a colourful masterpiece full of bright eye catching colours and stunning artwork Andrade definitely knows how to draw in the eyes using bright colours and eye grabbing detail.

    Verdict

A colourful, stylish masterpiece with a twisting story that gets more interesting as the pages go on.
