The anticipated fast favourite manga Blue Period will get its anime premiere this fall! Blue Period is an award-winning coming-of-age art manga written and illustrated by Tsubasa Yamaguchi, running from June 2017 and still continuing with nine volumes released so far.
The story follows student Yatora Yaguchi, a student dealing with inner turmoil and emptiness in his life. One day he becomes inspired and fascinated by his school art club to begin painting and join the club, taking his passions to applying for Tokyo University of the Arts.
An anime series will premiere this October, produced by Seven Arcs, most well known for Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. A key visual and teaser trailer was released earlier today.
Although quite minimalist, we manage to see familiar images from the manga. We see Yatora admiring and falling in love with the art in his school and ascending into this world. We are shown second long clips of other characters and friends of the character, and a central imagery being blue paint, an iconic association with this manga. 2021 already looks to be full of both new and continuing seasons of anime and is arguably one of the most anticipated years of anime. From the looks of it, Blue Period could slip through the cracks and make its own mark in a world of major adventure-filled shounen anime, heart-felt shoujo romance anime and blood-pumping sports anime.
Additionally, the Japanese voice cast was also announced:
Yatora Yagichi voiced by Hiromu Mineta
Ryuji Ayukawa voiced by Yumiri Hanamori
Yotasuke Takahashi voiced by Daiki Yamashita
Haruka Hashida voiced by Kengo Kawanishi
Maki Kuwana voiced by Yume Miyamoto
