When we last heard news on Shazam: Fury of the Gods it seemed the film was gearing up for an early 2021 shoot. Now we have some very exciting casting news for the DC Films sequel.
THR is reporting that Dame Helen Mirren (F9) has joined the cast as Hespera, the daughter of Atlas. According to the trade Hespera of the mystery character being played by Westside Story star Rachel Zegler.
In the comics Atlas is one of the Titans of Myth, and also one of the six gods who give the heroic Shazam his powers. If we go back to the classic Greek mythology then Hespera is the spirit of immortality.
David F. Sandberg returns to direct from a script by Henry Gayden, with Peter Safran producing through The Safran Company. Zachary Levi will return as the titular hero with Asher Angel playing his younger self, Billy Batson. The main cast of the previous film are all expected to return.
Shazam: Fury of the Gods is currently slated for release on November 4th, 2022.
