When we last had news on the sequel to 2018’s Tomb Raider we were hearing that the film had lost its planned 2021 release date. In the wake of Coronavirus the film had failed to begin production as planned with star Alicia Vikander hoping for a spring 2021 shoot.
Now we’re hearing that previously confirmed director Ben Wheatley (Kill List) is being replaced by Lovecraft Country creator Misha Green.
According to Deadline MGM has tapped Green to both write and direct the upcoming sequel which will also mark her feature debut. The 2018 film was directed by Roar Urthag and grossed a modest $275m globally. The upcoming sequel will once again be produced by Graham King via his GK Films banner, along with Elizabeth Cantillon via The Cantillon Company.
