Wonder Woman 1984 is now available to watch and it marks Connie Nielsen’s third appearance as the brilliant Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons. First she was in 2017’s Wonder Woman and then she appeared in Justice League. However, like many of the elements in the theatrical cut of Justice League, Connie Nielsen’s role was altered after Snyder stepped down. With the Snyder Cut finally debuting this year, it looks as though Hippolyta’s original role will be restored.
Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Nielsen made two requests when the director called seeking her blessing:
“Zack had already called me to ask if I would be okay with a reissue of the film with changes. And I asked him, ‘Well, will you bring back the Amazon chapter the way you had written it and had filmed it?’ And he said, ‘Absolutely,’ Nielsen shares. “then I said, ‘And Zack, will you also bring back my quite incredible stunt, running up the walls?’ And he said, ‘You got it.’ So I said, ‘Yeah, definitely. You’ve got my blessing. Absolutely.’“
Just from this, it’s obvious that Themyscira and the Amazon’s played a bigger role than we originally believed. You have the flashback with Darkseid and now we have a “Chapter” set on Themyscira. This segment will hopefully expand on the Amazon’s role to protect one of the Mother boxes. It will also put the Amazon’s in the spotlight and feature some epic stunts involving the Queen herself. We can’t wait.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is reportedly set to launch on HBO in March of 2021. Keep your eyes peeled for more exciting news.
