Today is a sad day for Detective Comics readers. Today issue #1033 hits stores and brings writer Peter J. Tomasi’s huge successful run to a close. To celebrate the event DC Comics has release a new preview which you can check out below.
Things haven’t been great between Batman and Robin lately. Furious at his father for all of his recent actions, Damian Wayne ripped the R off of his chest in a shocking issue of Teen Titans, turning his back on the iconic role and his dad in one fell swoop. Since then, he’s refused to speak or have anything to do with Batman…other than stealing the Dark Knight’s infamous black casebook. Exactly why Damian wants the book of unsolved cases remains to be seen—possibly to prove he’s a better detective than his father by solving them. Whatever the reason, it will have to wait as a new, far more urgent need has arisen in today’s Detective Comics #1033. Something so important, that it seems to have reunited the Dynamic Duo, at least for now.
The rest of the Bat-Family has been kidnapped by Hush.
Sensing the disorder within the family and the chaos on the streets of Gotham provoked by the popular anti-vigilante mayoral candidate Christopher Nakano, Bruce’s one-time friend realized the moment was right for a bold move against the Bat, incapacitating Nightwing, Red Hood, Batgirl, Signal, Batwoman and Orphan. Intending to literally carve each of them up and sell their internal organs on the black market, Hush’s plan is designed to strike a brutal blow to Batman—one that he’s unlikely to recover from. However, thwarting it will depend on Batman and Robin finding a way to work together once again, and considering they weren’t even talking less than an hour ago, that’s no small order. Will Damian be able to do what he’s always struggled with and put family first?
And speaking of family, did we mention that this is writer Peter J. Tomasi’s final issue of Detective Comics? Yes, it’s a bittersweet moment, but Tomasi’s going out strong, as you can see in our exclusive sneak peek at this pivotal issue. Check it out below and be sure to pick up the full book next Tuesday as we say goodbye to Pete and wrap up his phenomenal run!
