Whilst the future of the Black Panther franchise remains unclear, we now have a better idea when things will start to come in to focus.
The Hollywood Reporter is carrying a report that Marvel Studios is eyeing a July 2021 start date for filming on Ryan Coogler’s sequel. The news comes after the studio denied that it will be using a digital double for Chadwick Boseman in the sequel.
Additional reporting states that Marvel and Coogler have begun the casting process for the new film. Early reports suggest that Tenoch Huerta (Sin Nombre) has come on board as one of the film’s villains. No news yet on who that role might be.
The sequel had originally been set to shoot from March next year. This was delayed by both the passing of Boseman and the Coronavirus pandemic.
Black Panther 2 is currently due for release on May 6, 2022.
