A few bits of news to go through today in regards to the Wizarding World and the fate of the Fantastic Beasts movies. Where to start? Well, lets go through the latest casting rumors. As everyone knows, Johnny Depp was asked by Warner Bros to step down as Grindelwald- after filming for one day. So, who will replace him?
According to Deadline, Mads Mikkelsen is being considered to replace Johnny Depp in David Yates untitled Fantastic Beasts 3 and the subsequent sequels. According to their sources, Mikkelsen is said to be Yates’ first choice.
Despite him being perfect for the role, someone else comes to mind. Colin Farrell. While he was Grindelwald in disguise, Farrell did a fantastic job. He was cunning and manipulative. Honestly, when he was revealed to be Grindelwald, we were slightly disappointed since we knew that was the end of the line for Percival Graves. Of course, with a bit of magic, things can simply be rewritten.
Who would you cast as Grindelwald?
That brings us onto the next piece of news. Fantastic Beasts 3 has been delayed. Surprise, surprise. Instead of being released in November 2021, the third installment will drop on July 15th 2022.
While scenes are currently being filmed, this decision to delay will help Warner Bros in their quest for a new Grindelwald. Obviously, with the current climate it is also likely that filming could be delayed. It’s a smart move pushing the release back but how will the new date and new casting effect the Wizarding World?
