Yesterday was Star Trek day with celebrations taking place across all corners of the fandom. CBS All Access got in on the action with a number of panels celebrating the various TV series currently in production.

During a panel for animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks the cast revealed a brand new trailer for the back half of the season. Alongside plenty more hilarious action we got confirmation of at least one special cameo from a former The Next Generation (and other series’) cast member.

You can watch the full panel in the player below with the trailer starting at 17 minutes 29 seconds.

Speaking of the cameo, series showrunner Mike McMahan said: “Coming up in an episode John de Lancie joins us and he is playing Q in a small part. The whole episode isn’t about him, but it is hard to make a TNG era show and not have Q show up…”

He goes on to touch on the idea of legacy cameos as part of the show’s future saying “In the same episode Kurtwood Smith plays a tough alien named Klar. I don’t want to reveal too much about what he does, but Kurtwood originally played the President of the Federation in Star Trek VI. We try to cast some legacy Star Trek voices not just in the roles they originally played but in stuff they are the perfect voice for even though it is a new role. You can see both of them soon.”

Created by Rick & Morty writer Mike McHMahan, Star Trek: Lower Decks features the voices of Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells and Eugene Cordero as the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos.
