As America (and much of the rest of the world) continues to grapple with surging cases of Covid-19, Warner Bros. has taken the difficult decision to pull Christopher Nolan’s Tenet from their release schedule.
News broke late yesterday that WB execs were scrubbing the film “indefinitely” from their North American schedule. But all is not lost, though the word indefinitely might sound dire it is only to ensure the film gets the release it deserves.
“Our goals throughout this process have been to ensure the highest odds of success for our films while also being ready to support our theater partners with new content as soon as they could safely reopen,” said Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich in a statement released via The Hollywood Reporter.
“We will share a new 2020 release date imminently for Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s wholly original and mind-blowing feature. We are not treating Tenet like a traditional global day-and-date release, and our upcoming marketing and distribution plans will reflect that.”
Emmerich’s statement has led many to believe that Warner Bros. will return to the plan of releasing Tenet in international markets before rolling out in it’s home territory.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6mOF0kdSYQThe studio has also confirmed that The Conjuring 3 will move from September 11, 2020 to June 4, 2021. Both Wonder Woman 1984 and Dune remain in place for October and December 2020… for now.
Tenet stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson and Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh.
