Yesterday we learned that Batman Returns actor Michael Keaton is in early talks to return to the role of The Dark Knight. Following the breaking news, The Wrap updated their initial report to include more details on his potential role.
The trade has confirmed that the current version of The Flash script sees Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen travelling back in time to stop the murder of his mother.
After stopping the crime from taking place, Barry returns to a present day where Keaton’s Batman would exist. The audience would catch up with Keaton’s older Bruce Wayne 30 years after the events of 1992’s Batman Returns.
It’s understood that The Flash will ignore the events of 1995’s Batman Forever and 1997’s Batman & Robin, both of which can now exist in alternate universes.
Opening up the multiverse between film, TV and other projects was first seeded in Ezra’s appearance against Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen during the Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover event. Warner Bros. now places itself in a sandbox where film and TV characters from multiple projects are able to interact, should the story allow.
The Flash is currently dated to hit cinemas on July 1, 2022.
