On Thursday, June 11th, Sony held a massive online live-streamed event, showcasing many of the highly anticipated PlayStation 5’s major game titles. One of those titles turned out to be an installment of none other than Ratchet & Clank! Ratchet & Clank is a long running series of action-adventure video games, that are exclusive to PlayStation. The series – rebooted in 2016 – takes place in a fictional galaxy where Ratchet, a lombax (fictional species within this galaxy), and Clank, a robot, go on many different adventures together as they save the galaxy. Filled with humor, Ratchet & Clank is known for its vast array of upgradeable weapons, and both title characters are playable characters.
The game announced on Friday is titled Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart! Fans have been awaiting a sequel to the 2016 game, simply titled, Ratchet & Clank, which served as a reboot for the series. Now, the wait is almost over, as Rift Apart has finally been announced. Check out the trailer below!
The trailer begins with a creature that looks like an insect crawling around a forest, thus giving fans that classic colorful atmosphere of the series. Then, we see Ratchet and Clank progress through a series of portals transporting them through various dimensions. According to PlayStation Blog, this high speed progression through various animated dimensions is an example of the capabilities of the PS5’s ultra-high speed SSD. I am so excited for this next chapter in the Ratchet & Clank series, as it will be very nostalgic for me as a fan who has loved the series after playing it for a lot on PS3.
No release date is yet confirmed for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and the game will be exclusive to PS5.
