The wait for Mandalorian season 2 is both agonizing and exciting. On one level I desire to see The Child once again and on another I long for that return to the world of Star Wars.
We’ve been hit with a wave of rumors about characters set to appear in the new season. We’ve even had a release date confirmed. But today, we received some very interesting news that I think will have many fans thrilled.
Collider has confirmed that Extraction director Sam Hargrave acted as a second unit director tasked with boosting the action sequences with his knowledge.
If you’ve seen Extraction, you’ll know that this is super exciting. If you haven’t…. why not? go and watch it. Not right now, finish reading this and then watch it.
The fight scenes in Netflix’s Extraction are intense and wild. Now imagine those scenes in The Mandalorian. Wow. I think what this confirms as well, is that Mando will have a lot of new threats to deal with. Hargrave created some amazing one-on-one sequences but he also gave Chris Hemsworth the strength of a miniature army, allowing him to sweep through entire groups. It is possible that we could see Mando go up against more than just some Stormtroopers. Mando could even meet his match.
Here is what Hargrave had to say:
“It’s crazy. I was in the middle of post [-production on Extraction] and I’m editing my movie and I got a call from my buddy Colin Wilson, one of the line producers, who said, ‘Jon [Favreau] and the people over here are looking for someone to bring into the team or add to the family who has experience with action.’ The team that was there did a great job in the first season and it was just all fun. But they wanted to build on that and bring a new perspective and take it to another level for the next season. So, I was like, ‘That sounds like a fun challenge.’”
The action in Season 1 was incredible. There were so many highlights. However, after learning about Hargrave’s involvement. I am ecstatic. Just as a reminder, Hargrave has worked on titles such as Suicide Squad, Deadpool 2, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
Ladies and Gentlemen… we are in for quite a treat. However, Hargrave is well aware of the type of character the Mandalorian is and the importance of maintaining Mando’s nature and overall behavior during fight scenes.
“The balance you have to find and the truth you have to adhere to is the character you’ve developed. So, if you have a character and for this guy — who’s more of a gunslinger, a bit more of a brawler — it would be out of character for him to come into a scene and throw out a round-off, backwards double flip and do a crazy kick just because you can, or because he has a helmet on. You have to remember to stay true to the character. So yes, you can put whoever you want in there, but you have to make sure that you reign in the excitement and make sure you’re true to the character and the story.”
Are you excited for The Mandalorian Season 2? You can watch the entirety of Season 1 on Disney+ now. Season 2 is set to air in October of this year.
