Original stars of The Matrix, Carrie-Anne Moss and Keanu Reeves, recently sat down with Empire Magazine to discuss what brought them back to the digital world.
Both actors heaped heavy praise on the new script, written by original series creator Lana Wachowski who also returns to direct this latest film.
“I never thought that it would happen. It was never on my radar at all,” Moss tells the magazine. “When it was brought to me in the way that it was brought to me, with incredible depth and all of the integrity and artistry that you could imagine, I was like, ‘This is a gift.’ It was just very exciting.”
Adding to Moss’ sentiments, Reeves said “Lana Wachowski wrote a beautiful script and a wonderful story that resonated with me.”
“That’s the only reason to do it. To work with her again is just amazing. It’s been really special, and the story has, I think, some meaningful things to say, and that we can take some nourishment from.”
Production is set to continue on the film once sanctions on Hollywood productions are lifted.
The film will be written and directed by Lana Wachowski who returns to the franchise alongside stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff and Neil Patrick Harris as also set to star. The film is expected to enter production in early 2020.
