Neo sports a casual new look in first THE MATRIX 4 set video

Production appears to be underway on The Matrix 4 in San Francisco and fans have already spotted Keanu Reeves on set.

As you can see from the video below, Neo (Reeves) is sporting a very different look to when we last left him in 2003’s The Matrix Revolutions. Gone are the stylish shades and the long coat and in their place is something a little more contemporary and casual.

There’s very little to spoil here and we have no context to the scene which is being filmed but it’s interesting nonetheless!

Sense8 ran for two seasons between 2015 and 2017 on Netflix before being cancelled. However, fans successfully appealed to Netflix for a proper finale which was released mid-2018. Sense8 came from the mind of The Matrix 4 director Lana Wachowski.

The Matrix (Warner Bros.)

THE MATRIX 4 gets a working title

In this day-and-age fans are used to big franchise movies shooting under a working title to help dissuade fans from lurking around the set.

Production Weekly has now uncovered that Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures The Matrix 4 is no stranger to this rule as it will be shooting under the name of Project Ice Cream.

Of course this give absolutely nothing away about the film’s story but it’s a fun little tidbit of news about the upcoming sequel.

The film will be written and directed by Lana Wachowski who returns to the franchise alongside stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. The film is expected to enter production in early 2020.

The Matrix (Warner Bros.)

Warner Bros. confirms THE MATRIX 4, Reeves and Moss set to return

Get ready to return to the The Matrix as Warner Bros. has confirmed a fourth instalment in the franchise which is set to go in to production in 2020.

It’s been confirmed that Lana Wachowski will return to co-write and direct the movie. Though sister Lilly is currently not involved with the project.

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering the Matrix with Lana,” said WB chairman Toby Emmerich in a statement. “Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” added Wachowski. “I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”

Casting wise it has also been confirmed that Keanu Reeves will return as Neo alongside Carrie-Ann Moss as Trinity. Variety has shared a further update which claims that the script calls for a younger Morpheus which potentially rules out the return of Laurence Fishburne.

Is there some time travel on the cards?
