Some exciting new from Variety this morning. The trade is reporting that Paramount Pictures has begun developing a sequel to this year’s Sonic The Hedgehog.
The first film, released back in February, grossed $146M domestically and a worldwide total of $306M. So it’s no surprise that Paramount are looking to double down on that success.
The report confirms that director Jeff Fowler will return to helm the sequel. Fowler confirmed the news by sharing the original report on social media. Pat Casey and Josh Miller have also signed on to return and write the script. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara return to produce the sequel alongside executive producers Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi, and Tim Miller.
No news on whether the cast will return but we fully expect Ben Schwartz, Jim Carrey and James Marsden to reprise their roles.
Sonic the Hedgehog stars Ben Schwartz as Sonic and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, with James Marsden, Neal McDonald, Tika Sumpter, Adam Pally and Natasha Rothwell. The film is available on DVD, Blu-ray and digital now.
