Yesterday was May 4, known to many around the globe as Star Wars day. Whilst we all spent the day expressing our love of the force, Disney had some news to excite fans of the long-running franchise.
It has been confirmed that writer/director Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), who recently won an Academy Award for his screenplay for Jojo Rabbit, will be working on a new Star Wars movie after completing work on the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder.
Disney confirmed that Waititi’s project will be for theatrical release but no timeframe for release has been given as yet.
Waititi will be co-writing the film with Academy Award nominee Krysty Wilson Cairns (1917), Cairns recently received a BAFTA for Outstanding British Film of the Year for her work with Sam Mendes on the outstanding war epic.
Disney also announced that it is bringing another Star Wars franchise series to it’s Disney+ streaming platform. Emmy nominee Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) is developing a series which she plans to write, executive produce and serve as showrunner for.
