Earlier this year we heard that production company Spyglass was looking to bring Clive Barker’s Hellraiser back to the big screen with a new reboot. It seems that HBO also has plans for the classic horror franchise with the news that a TV adaption is also in development.
Deadline is reporting that HBO, home to Westworld and Game of Thrones, has begun early development on a small screen adaption which would act as a separate entity to the film reboot. The series will reportedly retain the mythology of the original films, with Pinhead acting as the leader of the Cenobites.
The trade understands that Halloween (2018) director David Gordon Green is attached to helm the series pilot episode with an option for further episodes. Mark Verheiden (Daredevil) and Michael Dougherty (Trick r’ Treat) are co-writing the series. Danny McBride Jody Hill, and Brandon James will act as executive producers.
No news on when the series is planned to come to screens as yet but we’ll keep you updated.
