Comic Cons are supposed to be a place of fun, creativity, compassion and nerding out with hundreds of others. Well, for Fan Fest this doesn’t seem to be the case.
For many months the company has been under scrutiny over the way they run their cons. Owed refunds, guest cancellations, lies, and convention cancellations have plagued the business for a while now and it seems that the walls are closing in.
Just 5 days before the event was meant to take place, Fan Fest London 2020 was cancelled. For some, this wasn’t a surprise. For others, it was the final nail in the coffin. Could this be the controversy that completely cancels Fan Fest as a whole? Well, considering the amount of damage they have caused to fans, celebrities, creators, and the overall atmosphere that is supposed to be blissful, it could definitely be likely.
Before the event was cancelled, multiple actors came out saying that they will not be attending. Interestingly, Fan Fest never made any announcements or updated the guest list. Manu Bennett simply shared a picture of the Titanic via his Instagram. Simple but effective.

Fan Fest issued a statement this morning on Facebook:
London,
Unfortunately, Fan Fest London at the Excel is cancelled.
As it’s early here in the US, we wanted to get this statement up, confirming the cancellation, and we will post a more thorough statement later today once we know more.

Their statement was edited twice. Their previous statement blamed the venue for the cancellation but attendees saw through that. It’s very hard to believe anything Fan Fest say and people are catching onto that.
For fans that have purchased tickets, considering their track record of ‘speedy’ refunds, it might be a while before you see a refund. However, other fans who have experienced this problem before have recommended going to your bank immediately.
While they advise contacting them for queries (i.e refunds), I would expect a majority of the emails to go unanswered. Their ability to respond to emails is infamous.
It really is a shame. Fan Fest was actually my first ever comic con experience and I had the best time. I went two years in a row. To see it crumble like this is incredibly sad. But I hope everyone is able to get the money that is owed to them and I hope it doesn’t dampen anyone’s future adventures. Con should never run like this.
