eOne’s (and Universal outside the UK) 1917 was the big winner at Sunday’s BAFTA awards ceremony here in London. The film took home seven of the nine prizes it was nominated for including the top honour of Best Film.
1917 was also handed awards for Best British Film, Best Director for Sam Mendes, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.
Warner Bros. Joker was nominated in a record 11 categories and was able to walk away with three prizes on the night. Composer Hildur GuĂ°nadĂłttir picked up another award for her outstanding score for the film and now has Oscar glory in her sights.
Joker also picked up the new award for its cast. The new category aims to highlight the work of casting departments across the industry who bring together the amazing casts we regularly see on the big screen.
Joaquin Phoenix also walked away with the prize for Leading Actor, further cementing his chances at taking the top acting prize at next week’s Oscars ceremony.
