Kevin Smith surprised fans and audiences at the annual Power-Con in Anaheim California on Sunday. The lovable geek announced a new anime series coming to Netflix centered on He-Man.
The new series will be titled MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: REVELATION.
This is what Kevin Smith had to say:
“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,”
“In ‘Revelation,’ we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”
Mattel Television will be producing the series while Smith serves as a showrunner and executive producer. Joining Smith as an executive producer is Rob David, the vice president of Mattel TV and author of “He-Man: The Eternity War”.
David said:
“Fans of this franchise have been waiting for the continuation of these characters, and Kevin Smith, as a ‘Masters’ superfan himself, is the perfect champion and partner to expand the canon through a dynamic animated series on Netflix.”
Writers for the show include Eric Carrasco, Tim Sheridan, Diya Mishra and Marc Bernardin.
The early 80s franchise started out as a Mattel toy range that ignited after the success of the Star Wars action figures. The franchise was then turned into a live-action film staring Dolph Lundgren.
In 2021, a new live-action He-Man film is due out with Noah Centineo confirmed to play the hulking hero.
