During the Star Trek Universe panel at San Diego Comic Con we finally got a first look at new animated series Lower Decks.
We’ve been hearing about the show for some time but this was our first chance to get a flavour of how the show will be when it hits CBS AllAccess in 2020.
As you can see from the character designs below the show is heavily influenced by adult comedies such as Ricky & Morty with a slightly quirky vibe to it’s style.
Star Trek: Lower Decks will focus on four ensigns serving on a “not very important ship” in Starfleet. As with all Trek shows past, this is about family. It’s set in 2380, after Nemesis, on a ship called the USS Cerritos, a California class ship. Showrunner Mike McMahan told audiences at the panel that the holodeck breaks down all the time.
The 10-episode first season arrives in 2020. Here’s a look at the bridge crew for the USS Cerritos.
And here is a look at the four lead characters, the Ensigns:
The series main voice cast was also announced during the panel and includes No’l Wells as Ensign Tendi; Eugene Cordero as Ensign Rutherford; Tawny Newsome as Ensign Mariner and Jack Quaid as Ensign Boimler.
