Kevin Feige really knows how to keep a secret, doesn’t he?
In surprising news at SDCC this Saturday, Kevin Feige has announced that Oscar winner Mahersha Ali (Green Book) has been cast as the new Blade.
Even more surprising was the announcement that the character will officially be a part of the MCU, opening up the universe to a LOT more entities of the supernatural variety for Phase 4.
However, the original Blade, released in 1998, was rated R for it’s over the top, graphic violence, which really doesn’t seem to gel with the current family-friendly nature of the MCU.
Does this mean changes to the character, or is the MCU looking at targeting more mature audiences? Perhaps in a similar vein to their freshly acquired Deadpool franchise?
There is currently no word on whether original Blade actor Wesley Snipes will feature in this new incarnation, but with how vocal he has been about the character, I would assume he will be pushing to be a part of this new movie in some capacity.
