Following the confirmation that New Mutants was shifting its release date once again, now to April 2020, many felt that was the final nail in the X-Men movie spin-off.
But now series producer Simon Kinberg has confirmed that long rumoured reshoots are set to take place during the latter half of 2019 to get the movie ready for its eventual release.
Speaking with Digital Spy the Dark Phoenix director said “What’s happening is we’re gonna do reshoots this year on that film and it has a new release date from Disney. That’s really it,”
“Part of it was figuring out what the reshoots were gonna be, the pick-ups, and the other part of it was getting that cast back together.””For all of these movies, Marvel’s really brilliant at scheduling pick-ups into their budget and schedule so it’s all prepared, and we have never been that smart,” he added, does this confirm that Marvel Studios is now in the driving seat?
“For us, we’re always scrambling to get these actors back together so they’re all in the same place at the same time.”
Could New Mutants now be the gateway for the mutant population to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
New Mutants stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt, Henry Zaga, and Alice Braga. The film is directed by Josh Boone from a screenplay by Boone and Knate Lee. Production credits go to Simon Kinberg, Lauren Schuler Donner and Karen Rosenfelt.
