CAPTAIN MARVEL wins second weekend at global box office, surpasses $760M

As expected Captain Marvel has won a second weekend at the global box office. In doing so the movie has surpassed a huge $760M world wide.
In North America the Marvel Studios released topped the chart with an estimated $69.3M. That’s a drop of around -54.8% on opening weekend which is average for this type of movie. After ten days in domestic release the movie has now grossed $266M.
Captain Marvel opened in Japan this week with an estimated $5.6M placing it at #1 in the chart there. With Japan now in the frame that movie has completed its global rollout.
Elsewhere the movie remains top dog in China with $132M followed by South Korea ($36.5M), the UK ($30.9M), Brazil ($24.3M) and Mexico ($22.4M). According to BoxOfficeMojo the international total for the weekend was an estimated $119.7M from 54 markets for a global tally topping $760M.

Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.
Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, a U.S. Air Force pilot whose an Air Force whose DNA fuses with that of an alien, and she’s thrust into the middle of an intergalactic conflict. The cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Mar-Vell, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, and Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Algenis Perez Soto and McKenna Grace in as-yet-undisclosed roles.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script they wrote with Liz Flahive, Carly Mensch, Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Captain Marvel is in cinemas now.
