DC Comics has unveiled its plans to celebrate The Dark Knight’s 80th birthday in 2019.
As we all know the publisher is kicking off celebrations with the release of Detective Comics #1000 on March 27th but there’s plenty more where that came from.
Alongside the release of the landmark 100th issue of Detective Comics the publisher will also release Detective Comics: 80 Years Of Batman: Deluxe Edition.
Curated by guest editor Paul Levitz, it features reprints of the Dark Knight’s most memorable adventures. And, published for the first time anywhere: a new tale of a traumatic early moment in Bruce Wayne’s life written by Paul Levitz with art by Denys Cowan and Bill Sienkiewicz, and an extraordinary look at a long-ago work in progress—the original layouts for the Batman tale from DETECTIVE COMICS #200, as illustrated by Lew Sayre Schwartz (and signed “Bob Kane”). As if that’s not enough, this volume includes essays on Batman from contributors including Cory Doctorow, Neil Gaiman, Glen David Gold, Dennis O’Neil, former San Diego police chief Shelley Zimmerman and pulp historian Anthony Tollin.
The publisher will also be holding celebratory Batman 80 panels at Emerald City Comic Con, C2E2 in Chicago and on Batman’s actual birthday (March 30th) there will be a panel at WonderCon.
First up is at SXSW in Austin, Texas between 15th and 17th March where Warner Bros. will be celebrating the birthday with the release of 1.5M bats over the Congress Bridge. Yes 1.5 MILLION bats.
Here’s a look at the full size poster courtesy of Batman-News.com but watch out, the file is a massive 53.6MB and 7246×9678 pixels.
