Bumblebee is proving to be the leggiest Transformers movie ever released at the box office. Now entering its sixth week at the North American box office the movie has crossed a fairly significant landmark worldwide.
It’s 5th weekend at the domestic box office brought in a further $4.6M, upping its domestic total to $115.9M. But internationally the latest Transformers franchise release has raked in a total of $296M for a global tally of $412.3M.
Considering its $21.6M opening weekend in North America the film has legged it out through the holiday season to become a sleeper success. $130M of it’s global cume is from the Chinese market alone with Japan set to open in March.
It is expected the movie will exit the worldwide box office with a total somewhere around $460M.
Meanwhile Deadline is reporting that Paramount Pictures has begun discussing plans for a potential sequel. No word on whether stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena and director Travis Knight will return at this stage.
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
Directed by Travis Knight from a script by Christina Hodson, Bumblebee stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Pamela Adlon, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny. The film lands in cinemas December 21, 2018.
