Over the weekend 20th Century Fox has juggled the release dates for its remaining slate of X-Men movies. Whilst we understand that other movies are still in development these changes directly impact some of the companies biggest upcoming releases.
First up: Dark Phoenix is moving from February 14, 2019 to June 7. Deadline reports that this decision was strategic to gain Dark Phoenix a much larger opening in China. The first trailer has racked up over 44 million views within the first 24 hours of release in the market.
Gambit is also on the movie. The Channing Tatum-led spinoff looks to be kicking off production in February next year so its release has been updated accordingly. The film has now moved to March 13, 2020.
The studio has also moved Alita: Battle Angel from this winter’s jam-packed December 21 date to February 14, 2019. That moves it out of the path of Aquaman and Bumblebee and gives it the slot vacated by Dark Phoenix.
What movie will take the place of Alita in that December 21 release date? Well the studio has scheduled an Untitled Deadpool Movie in that spot. Rumour point to this being a PG-13 version of the Deadpool sequel but the studio has yet to confirm this news.
