STX Film Peppermint finally dropped in North America last week. Despite middling reviews the film grossed a healthy $13.26M over the course of the weekend.
According to BoxOfficeMojo that gross puts the film squarely between the openings of the original John Wick ($14.4M) and Death Wish ($13M). The film was given a B+ Cinemascore by audiences over the weekend.
The film has already begun its international roll out. It arrives here in the UK on September 21. So far Peppermint has opened in 17 territories and grossed around $1.4M over the weekend.
It’s reported the film cost around $25M to produce.

Riley North was living a happy and uneventful suburban life with her husband Chris and 10 year-old-daughter Carly. While they may have been struggling to make ends meet their lives were filled with laughter and love. Baited by the idea of a quick money- grab that could ease their financial burden, Riley’s husband Chris is pulled into a potential “business” opportunity involving local members of a powerful drug cartel. Questioning the morality of his prospective actions, Chris ultimately backs out, but this brief flirtation with the criminal underworld leads to a deadly retaliation that alters the course of their lives forever.

The film is directed by Pierre Morel (Taken, The Gunman) and written by Chad St. John (London Has Fallen). Peppermint is produced by Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, Richard Wright and Eric Reid. . Director of Photography is David Lazenberg, Production Designer is Ramsey Avery, the Editor is Frédéric Thoraval, the Costume Designer is Lindsay Ann McKay, and Music is by Simon Franglen.
