MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: FALLOUT opens to $77m in China

Mission Impossible: Fallout has finally hit the Chinese market. Following its opening weekend its clear the franchise has a huge hold over the Middle Kingdom as movie opened to a franchise best $77m.

That figure is also a career best for Tom Cruise in the market.

Domestically the film has made over $200m whilst internationally the tally is currently around $468m. Globally that means the film has grossed $668m.

For those keeping score $668m makes Fallout the third highest grossing movie in the Mission Impossible franchise following Ghost Protocol ($694.7M) and Rogue Nation($682.7M). Given that it still holds the number three spot at the box office there’s plenty of time to top both these movies in the coming weeks.

Mission Impossible: Fallout stars Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt. Cruise is joined by franchise co-stars Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, and Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn. Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett and Vanessa Kirby also star. Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote and directed 2015’s Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, also returns.
