An interesting piece of casting news for Star Wars: Episode IX has just hit the web. Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith has joined the film in an undisclosed role!
The former eleventh Doctor has, according to Variety, been hired by director J.J. Abrams to play a “key role” in the film. Smith has also had roles in Terminatory: Genysis and Netflix gem The Crown.
The film will see the return of Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), and Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix).
Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), and Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) will also all return to reprise their iconic roles from previous films.
The late Carrie Fisher will appear via previously unreleased archive footage.
Star Wars: Episode IX hits cinemas December 20, 2019.
