This one belongs purely in the rumour column for now. A report in yesterdays New York Times is claiming that Jon Favreau’s upcoming live action Star Wars TV series may cost as much as $10M per episode to produce.
Disney has reportedly commissioned 10 episodes for the first season taking the potential cost up to around $100M. Given the potential for success using the Star Wars name it’s no surprise that the studio wants to lavish a huge budget on the series in order to acquire the kind of special effects required to succeed.
A further rumour from Making Star Wars sets the series on Mandalore. The setting is more familiar to fans of animated incarnations of the franchise having not yet appeared in live action. It is said the series is set around three years after Return of the Jedi and will focus on restoring the planet following the fall of the Empire.
