Captain Marvel is following its female lead by recruiting a female composer to provide its score.
Krypton composer Pinar Toprak has been officially confirmed to score the upcoming Marvel film. The announcement marks the first time a female composer has taken on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
THR has also offered up a tease on Toprak’s work after recently attending a scoring session:
“Heat Vision attended Captain Marvel scoring session last month, and saw Toprak at work at Warner Brothers’ Eastwood Sound Stage. Vibrant strings were mixed with state of the art synths to create powerful action sequences. The compelling melodies evoked images of a fierce battle, and quickly retreated to softer, emotional notes for a more personal moment. Toprak conducted the entire scoring session, then raced over to a panel for her other superhero project, Krypton. No footage of Captain Marvel was shown during the session, which featured a number of musicians as well as mixer Alan Meyerson, known for his work on Hans Zimmer’s superhero films such as The Dark Knight.”
Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, a U.S. Air Force pilot whose an Air Force whose DNA fuses with that of an alien, and she’s thrust into the middle of an intergalactic conflict. The cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Mar-Vell, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, and Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Algenis Perez Soto and McKenna Grace in as-yet-undisclosed roles.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script they wrote with Liz Flahive, Carly Mensch, Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Captain Marvel arrives March 8, 2019.
