Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom lands in UK cinemas today and with it the first reviews have finally been published.
As of writing the film holds a score of 69% on aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes. The previous film in the franchise ended with a score of 71%.
The critics consensus reads:
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom adds another set piece-packed entry to the blockbuster franchise, although genuinely thrilling moments are in increasingly short supply.
Here is what some of the top reviewers had to say about the latest outing:
The Times (UK)
Its a…pleasing surprise, that a relatively low-profile Spanish director, JA Bayona…has brought this branded corpse back from the dead with a furiously entertaining jab of creative adrenaline. [4/5]
Daily Telegraph (UK)
Exactly why would anyone visit a dinosaur-infested island for a fifth time, when all four previous excursions had ended in limb-gobbling pandemonium? [2/5]
Total Film
After a first half that suggests franchise fatigue is setting in, Fallen Kingdom zooms in for some scarily good set-pieces. [3/5]
Blood Disgusting
Fallen Kingdom clears the extraordinarily low bar of being better made than its predecessor, but screenwriter and executive producer Colin Trevorrow crafts a follow-up to his own capital-b bad film with a story that’s even broader and dumber. [2/5]
Forbes
Fallen Kingdom is a gorgeous, mostly enjoyable blockbuster that looked great in IMAX. That it doesn’t cash all the checks it tries to write is why it’s merely a good movie instead of a great one.
Sci-Fi Now
It’s not a perfect film, and it misses some opportunities, but it’s a big improvement on Jurassic World, and is the best film in the franchise since The Lost World. [4/5]
Whilst it seems an overall mixed bag there are a lot of positives. Many of the reviews praise the franchise for not sticking to action on the island. Of course we’ll let you decide for yourselves and will post our review as soon as we find time to get to the cinema!
