Deadpool 2 is off to a strong, if not stellar start to its opening weekend.
The 20th Century Fox sequel broken Thursday night preview records with a haul of $18.6m. The film then went on to gross what is reported as a $53.5m opening day.
Without the Thursday previews that means the film had a $34.9m Friday. Estimates for the weekend have been revised to approximately $132m.
Back in 2016 the first Deadpool opened to $132.4m so it’s going to be a close call on whether the sequel is able to pass that figure.
