After a tense weekend the wait for news on the future of Gotham is over. FOX has officially announced that is has picked up the veteran show for a fifth and final season.
At this stage on Friday it seemed that the show was a goner. The cancellation of Lucifer only added to concerns. As the axe fell on a number of other FOX shows fans waited with bated breath for an update.
Cast and crew members of Gotham spent the weekend campaigning on social media. Their work appears to have paid off as FOX officially announced a fifth and final season.
No news yet on the episode order for the fifth season. FOX is likely looking to syndication options to recoup further costs from the show. By TV standards shows are a dead cert for syndication once 100 episodes have been produced.
A thirteen episode final season would guarantee Gotham would hit the 100 episode mark.
In a short statement the network said:
“The fifth and final season will wrap up this unique origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, which revealed an entirely new chapter that has never been told.”
